Canstruction, which has raised about 25,000 pounds of food for area food banks in the past several years, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with its build day at Columbus’ FairOaks Mall, 2380 25th St.
Public voting for the best designs and structures built from canned goods begins at noon Sunday. Each vote costs $1, which goes to the food banks. People can vote for as many structures as they like. Votes also can be cast online at paragonme.net/columbuscan.
Last year the event, in which teams of volunteers built everything from a makeshift rocket to a castle, set a record of 28,789 cans of food donated to Love Chapel, Community Center of Hope and The Salvation Army.
