Cash, meth found inside speeding vehicle

Follow The Republic:

A traffic stop of a speeding vehicle early Friday resulted in Columbus police finding more than $4,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine and the arrests of four people.

Sgt. Matt Harris was patrolling the area of 25th Street near U.S. 31 at about 12:30 a.m. when he noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed east on 25th Street, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesperson for the Columbus Police Department.

Harris stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Melissa Holley, 31, North Vernon. Harris determined that Holley was wanted for an out-of-county warrant and that her driver's license had been suspended. Harris also determined that of the three passengers in the vehicle, one was wanted on an out-of-county warrant, Myers said.

Patrolman Chad Lehman and his police dog Rex arrived to assist. During a search of the vehicle's exterior, Rex indicated the presence of drugs. After further investigation, police found crystal meth, more than $3,500 in cash, needles and drug paraphernalia, Myers said.

Holley was arrested for the out-of-county warrant, and cited for speeding and driving with a suspended license.
