Catholic app encourages reading Gospels during Lent

Follow The Republic:

In Scripture, much of Jesus’ ministry was carried out on the go amid everyday events, as he made his way from one place to another and as he shared meals with others.

Leaders at the EWTN Global Catholic Network get that. That’s one reason why they see their free app as important, especially this time of year. It includes the “Daily Lenten Scripture Reading Challenge,” encouraging app users to read all four Gospels in 40 days. Lent runs until the day before Easter.

The free version of the EWTN app has St. Mark’s Gospel available on audio, while the paid version has all four Gospels available. The daily Lenten challenge has a play list that will pull up the Gospel reading for each day of Lent, beginning with the Gospel of Mark.

Jeff Hahn, online services director for the Catholic network, recently told the National Catholic Register newspaper that such apps allow the faithful to carry “volumes of information” in the convenience of a pocket.

The story also used a quote from St. Jerome: “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”
