Columbus Animal Care Services has planned a nighttime bicycle ride fundraiser.
Moonlight Loop will start at 9 p.m. Aug. 16 and will take riders on a 19-mile loop around the city of Columbus.
The cost for the event is $25 if registration is completed before the end of July and $30 after that. Riders who preregister will receive a glow-in-the-dark Moonlight Loop T-shirt.
All proceeds from the ride will go to the Animal Care Services Adoption Medical Fund, which covers spaying and neutering costs, pet care services, veterinarian treatment for animals housed at the facility, transportation requirements and pet food.
Riders who participate in the event are encouraged to decorate their bikes with lights, not only to ensure a safe ride and improve visibility, but for riders to be able to participate in the Light Up Your Bike, Light Up the Night contest. The contest will be at 8:30 p.m.
The event will begin and end at the Bartholomew County Public Library/Visitors Center plaza and includes a trip through Mill Race Park and over the Robert N. Stewart Bridge. There will be one scheduled stop at the Columbus Learning Center for food and a restroom break.
Principal riders must be at least 16 years old.
Younger children can ride if using a tandem bicycle or bicycle attachment.
