Emily Gloeckner remembers that some of her childhood vacation Bible school weeks in her hometown of Stendal in southwestern Indiana planted seeds of faith that later sprouted into healthy spiritual fervor.
“I always especially loved the music,” Gloeckner said.
Next week, Gloeckner gets to relive those memories and create great ones for new vacation Bible schoolers.
She will help lead Community Church of Columbus’ free VBS program, “Wilderness Escape: Where God Guides and Provides,” beginning Monday at the church, 3850 N. Marr Road.
It is one of many such free or modestly priced offerings for youngsters this summer, aiming to mix building faith with building whimsical fun for the pint-sized to preteens. And it’s all done with a sublime mission perhaps best highlighted by Lifeway Christian Resources, among the nation’s leaders in VBS materials.
Each year, about one-fourth of southern Baptist church members’ decisions to follow Christ come from VBS students, according to Lifeway figures.
All the events listed here are open to any youngsters fitting the age requirements, regardless of whether the children have any church affiliation.
