Hello from the City Garage crews.
Spring is right around the corner, so things are starting to get busy.
Brush, compost pickup
Our brush and compost routes will resume weekly pickup starting April 1. Pickup will be the day after your regularly scheduled trash collection.
If you have brush or compost that needs to be picked up before April 1, please place it at the curb and give us a call to arrange for a special pickup.
Those flower beds are going to be needing attention very soon, so don’t forget that we have plenty of free mulch available at the Columbus-
Bartholomew County compost site. The crews collect brush on a weekly basis from residents, which then is ground up and turned into mulch that can be put to good use. For more information about free mulch or compost, please give us a call at 376-2508 or contact the Bartholomew County Recycling Center at 376-2614.
Special pickups
Special pickups will be the week of March 4 to 8 on your regularly scheduled trash collection day. Special pickups are always the first full week of each month, so if the first falls on a Tuesday, the full week would be the following week.
Some guidelines:
Toter guidelines
Storm inlets
With spring around the corner, it will bring those spring showers, so we ask that you please help keep your storm inlets cleaned off and free of any debris to help prevent any flooding on your street.
The main culprits of storm drains being clogged are loose grass, leaves or sticks that get placed into streets. Remember to keep items on top of the curb and not in the curb for collection.
Potholes
Potholes are a continual problem. This time of year is the worst for potholes due to the freezing and thawing taking place.
We have crews out trying to stay on top of them, but this is where we need your help. If you see one of those pesky potholes, don’t hesitate to report it to us — whether they are in the roadway or in an alley. Report them by calling 376-2508 or online at www.columbus.in.gov. Garage crews will make the repairs as soon as possible.
Signage and street lights
The traffic crews have been busy updating and replacing damaged signage.
If you see a sign that needs attention, whether it is from an accident, vandalism, fading or a sight distance issue, please let the traffic department know by calling 376-2508.
If you have a street light that needs attention, outages can be reported to the Columbus Engineering Department at 376-2540.
Comments, questions, or concerns can be sent to us at www.columbus.in.gov or by phone at 376-2508.
Please be safe and enjoy your spring.
