Columbus Fire Department Station 2 will host a “Community Day” from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, the first of a series of open house events at all fire department stations.
Tours of the station will be offered. Children will be allowed to get up-close to firefighting equipment. Information will be available about smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Refreshments will be served.
Station 2, 2376 Arnold St., opened in 2008. The building was designed by Architect William Burd in 2006.
The station protects neighborhoods near Columbus Municipal Airport, provides protection to air travelers with special equipment and is home of the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting division. Nineteen firefighters are assigned to the station and work 24-hour shifts every third day.
Station 2 houses a display case that reflects the changes that have taken place within the fire service over the years. Items include antique fire extinguishers and a fire department journal and helmets.
