An infant in the Clifford area was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after being bitten by a family pet.
Ten-month-old Embry Graham, son of Linda Black, of 8263 Dena St., was playing with two dogs, including a Doberman pinscher, according to Bartholomew County Deputy Sheriff Maj. Todd Noblitt. Shortly before 2 p.m., the Doberman bit the child on the head, Noblitt said.
Embry suffered wounds above the right eye and received stitches in the emergency room before he was released, Noblitt said.
The potential danger of allowing a Doberman pinscher around young children is frequently debated, according to John Jackson of GreatDogSite.com. He said most experts say there should be no problems as long as the Doberman is well trained.
But Jackson warned that both small children and dogs don’t understand the possible consequences of their behavior with each other.
No action regarding the dog was taken in this incident, Noblitt said.
