Correction: The 2012 Chili Cook-Off is Friday. An earlier version of this story had the incorrect day.

Two events will be held this week to help kick off seasonal fundraising efforts for the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund.

Eleven Bartholomew County fire departments will compete in the 2012 Chili Cook-Off. The event gets under way at 5 p.m. Friday at FairOaks Mall.

Live music will be performed by 3 Chord Monty, Tom Pickett and Da Bums. The $5 admission includes either a bowl of chili or a 6-inch submarine sandwich, as well as a cookie and drink.

The Cheer Fund also will sponsor Pictures With Santa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at Station One, located near 11th and Jackson streets. The cost for a photograph with Santa Claus is $7. No outside cameras will be allowed.

One of the oldest charities in Bartholomew County, the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund delivered 190 boxes to disadvantaged families last December.

Each child’s box was filled with three new toys, two gently used toys, three books and various stocking stuffers. Some families also received bikes, stuffed animals and bags of fresh apples and oranges.
