Columbus firefighters called to PMG for furnace flue fire

Follow The Republic:

A furnace flue fire at PMG Tuesday caused minor damage, but no injuries were reported.

PMG, 1751 Arcadia Drive, said the furnace involved is used to manufacture auto parts.

The plant was evacuated at about 3:36 p.m. after the fire was reported. PMG representatives said a build-up of deposited materials in the flue pipe was likely the cause of the fire, Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman, said.

Firefighters and plant personnel used a flue brush to remove the debris from the pipe, and used thermal imaging to pinpoint fire areas in the pipe. Firefighters were at the scene about two hours.
