Wayne Eckerle, vice-president of research and technology for Cummins, Inc., said the cause of the fire at the Tech Center was a test cell engine.
"It was really the smoke that caused us to evacuate," Eckerle said. "There was no building damage to any extent, and nobody was hurt."
2:53 p.m. update
Cummins workers have been told that they can re-enter the building.
FIrefighters are packing their equipment.
2:41 p.m. update
Firefighters said they have extinguished a fire.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters are on the scene at the Cummins Tech Center, 1900 McKinley Ave., responding to a call of a possible fire in the building.
At least five fire trucks are on the scene, and the building has been evacuated.
