A Columbus man was apprehended early Monday in the Wehmeier Addition, southeast of Columbus East High School, on theft and drug charges.
Caleb Bowers, 27, of 3065 Foxridge Drive, faces charges of theft, a Class D felony; two counts of possession of a controlled substance, both Class D felonies; possession of a legend drug, a Class D felony; and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix said.
Columbus Police Lt. Jeff Williams confronted Bowers at 1:40 a.m. in the 400 block of Clifty Drive as the officer was responding to a report of a burglary in progress. Williams discovered the suspect had an iPhone and debit card that had been reported missing, Maddix said.
Bowers was also carrying less than 30 grams of marijuana, as well as two types of illegally obtained prescription pills, Maddix said.
Charges, if any, will be determined by the office of Bartholomew County Prosecutor Bill Nash.
