An 87-year-old story of a young boy’s murder in Paul Hoffman’s hometown in Wisconsin intrigued the Columbus resident, who began digging into old newspaper clippings to piece together a story that gripped the community in a suburb of Milwaukee.
“Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher” was published in June by The History Press. Copies are available in Columbus at Viewpoint Books, 548 Washington St., and The Mix, 901 Washington St.
Local events related to Hoffman’s book include:
• 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 11 — Book signing at Starbucks, 1585 National Road.
• 7 p.m. Aug. 16 — Program and book signing at Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St.
• 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 6 — One of the speakers at the 2012 Writers Conference at the Crump Theatre, 425 Third St., sponsored by Pen It! magazine.
