Robert Coatsworth of Columbus has been named Professional Driver of the Year for 2013, according to a media release from the Indiana Motor truck Association.

He is a professional truck driver for Wal-Mart Transportation in Seymour.

Coatsworth has been driving for 42 years and has 4.3 million miles with no accidents or citations. He is a master truck driver, has completed a professional driver improvement course and has participated in the IMTA Truck Driving Championships multiple years. Coatsworth is an 11-time driver of the month.

The IMTA Driver of the Month and Driver of the Year Awards recognize drivers who have achieved superior driving records.

The criteria for selection include safe driving record, company recommendation, professional achievements and community service.

He has helped two different motorists and a fellow truck driver who were involved in accidents.

One involved a family trapped in a van down a ravine. He called an emergency team and stayed with the family until they were safe.

Coatsworth lives in Columbus and has three children, Christina, Jennifer and Michelle.
