A Columbus woman was hit by a car west of Smith Elementary School this morning.
Shortly before 8 a.m., Alison M. Ross, 38, was attempting to cross Waycross Drive from the bus stop that serves both the Fairington and Briarwood Apartment complexes, located across the street from the bus stop, according to Columbus police spokesman Sgt. Matt Harris.
However, she was struck by an eastbound silver-colored Hyundai car, Harris said. She had head and back injuries, and was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital, Harris said.
The driver, identified as Amber Jackson, 20, a Columbus native now living in Austin, Texas, was in town visiting relatives. While the accident is still under investigation, it appears Jackson may have had the sun in her eyes when the collision occurred, Harris said.
