A Columbus woman was struck by a car Monday afternoon while riding her bicycle in southwestern Bartholomew County.

Arlene Keele, 70, was riding her bike south on County Road 400W, in the area of County Road 250S, about 1:23 p.m., said Maj. Todd Noblitt, spokesman for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Behind her were two cars also traveling south on County Road 400W.

The car directly behind Kiel pulled around to pass her. When the car passed, the driver of the second car, James Plummer, 86, of Columbus, did not see Keele in time and struck the back of her bicycle, Noblitt said.

She was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Noblitt said. Monday afternoon she was still being treated in the emergency room and was considered to be in stable condition.
