COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus native was chosen as the state trooper of the year for the Indiana State Police Versailles District.
Trooper Matthew Simmons was honored this morning as the Versailles District Trooper of the Year for 2010. He was also recognized as Life DUI Award winner for the Versailles District after making 116 DUI arrests in 2010.
According to an announcement from the state police, Simmons was one of the top five troopers in the state for DUI arrests.
In 2009, Simmons was also recognized as the top trooper in the former Seymour District for DUI enforcement.
Simmons is a 2001 graduate of Columbus North High School and a 2009 graduate of IUPUI with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He began his career with the Indiana State Police in July 2007 and was assigned to the Seymour District. He s is now assigned patrol responsibilities in Bartholomew County. He lives in Columbus with his wife, Sara, and their son, Aaron.
