VERNON — More than 10 hours of broadcast history in Jennings County has been compiled into a CD set available for sale.
Both the Jennings County Historical Society and the Hayden Historical Museum will share $12 from the sale of each 10-CD set. Both organizations are selling the recordings for $27.95.
The recordings were made between 1961 and 1981 by former radio station WOCH, which began broadcasting in North Vernon in 1955. The tapes were kept by former WOCH General Manager Charlie Plummer, who resides in Florida.
Former WOCH announcer Jess Spurgin, who now works for a Phoenix radio station, serves as narrator of the compilation.
WOCH-AM has undergone at least five changes in call letters and is now known at WJCP.
WOCH-FM was broadcast over a 50,000-watt transmitter. The signal is now occupied by WWWY, The River 106.1.
