Thirty-seven Quail Run residents lost gas service Thursday after a contracting company damaged a 2-inch gas line, Columbus firefighters said.
At 10:35 a.m., firefighters were called to the 2900 block of 10th street for a gas odor investigation. According to Vectren Energy officials, a contracting company was boring new service lines within the complex when a back hoe pierced an existing line. Vectren officials stated that the contacted company did have the utility locations surveyed but the gas line that was struck was not marked. According to Vectren, the shut off valve was located and closed within 20 minutes.
Vectren used meters within the apartment units to check gas levels and said gas service would be restored within an hour.
