Convenience store cited for Christmas alcohol sales

Follow The Republic:

Indiana State Excise Police have cited 109 Speedway convenience stores, including the 2350 Jonathon Moore Pike location in Columbus, for unlawfully selling alcohol on Christmas day.

The excise officer began an investigation Dec. 26 after receiving an anonymous tip that a Speedway convenience store in South Bend sold beer on Christmas day. While investigating at that store, the officer spoke to another clerk from a different Speedway who asked if it was illegal to sell alcohol on Christmas, because she too had sold alcohol at her store.

Indiana prohibits selling alcoholic beverages from 7 a.m. on Dec. 25 until 3 a.m. on Dec. 26, according to the excise police.
