LOOGOOTEE — The hopes of the Trinity Lutheran volleyball team returning to the Class A state championship match came to an end on Saturday night in the Loogootee Semistate when the host Lions claimed a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 win in the Jack Butcher Arena.
Trinity reached the championship match by defeating Hauser in the semifinals. With a three-set win, 25-21, 25-14, 25-13, it was the Cougars’ third defeat of the Jets this season,
In the first set, Lauren Gross came up with her third kill to give the Jets an 8-4 lead before the Cougars rallied to tie the score at 11. Hauser held its last lead at 16-15, and Mandan Langley put Trinity on top for good with a kill. Stuckwisch had kills on the final two points of the set.
A kill by Haley Webster put Hauser on top 7-5 in the second set before Trinity went on an 11-4 rally. Hannah Barker served three straight aces to close out the set.
Gross’ kill gave Hauser a 7-2 advantage in the third set, and the Jets held a 9-5 edge before Trinity scored seven straight points and continued to pull away.
The Jets finished with a 27-9 record.
