Country Squire Lakes residents want deputy patrols

Follow The Republic:

VERNON — It now appears a petition requesting that Jennings County assume control of three roads in the private Country Squire Lakes subdivision has been signed by a majority of its residents.

If the signatures turned over to the Jennings County Commissioners Monday night are authenticated, it would allow sheriff's deputies to regularly patrol Country Manor Road, Country Squire Boulevard and Foxmoor Drive.

Those streets represent the major entrances and exits to the 4,000-lot subdivision near North Vernon.

Commissioner Matt Sporleder considers the petition the first step toward increased law enforcement at Country Squire Lakes, which he claims account for about three out of four calls made to county law enforcement.

If those roads are accepted into the county's jurisdiction, the costs of patrolling and maintaining them would be reimbursed by the state, according to Sporleder.
