Follow The Republic:
Replacement of deteriorating sidewalks and curbs around the Bartholomew County Government Office Building in downtown Columbus will cost taxpayers more than originally anticipated
The county's original estimate for the work was $80,000 to $90,000, but County Commissioners President Larry Kleinhenz said the only bid received by Monday's deadline was for $126,000.
Kleinhenz said the bid amount from Repp and Mundt, Inc. was due to the underground garage that sits beneath the building. Since the garage extends under the sidewalk, Kleinhenz said the replacement work will be more complex and expensive than first anticipated.
