Follow The Republic:

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A crash on Interstate 65 Thursday night stranded 35 cats and dogs being transported between animal shelters, according to city officials.

An animal control van was transporting the pets from a Georgia shelter to Wisconsin when it crashed near the Columbus exit on the interstate last night. None of the animals were seriously injured, but the containers carrying the animals were damaged and one dog is still missing, according to city officials.

Columbus Animal Care Services responded to the crash and the pets were taken to the city animal shelter overnight.

Indiana State Police are working on the accident investigation.
