Crash victim stable; wreck still under investigation

Follow The Republic:

A Jackson County man injured in a fatal one-vehicle wreck on Monday remains hospitalized.

John E. Hunsucker, 87, Vallonia, was in stable condition Tuesday at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Sheriff Michael Carothers said.

Hunsucker was transferred to Methodist on Monday from Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment of head injuries, Carothers said.

His wife, Mary Margaret Hunsucker, 94, was pronounced dead at Methodist on Monday afternoon. The cause of death was head injuries from the crash, Carothers said.

Carothers said the cause of the crash, reported just after noon, remains under investigation. The wreck occurred in the 11000 block of U.S. 50 West.

Hunsucker’s 2011 Honda sedan drove off U.S. 50 and struck a utility pole before coming to a stop in a ditch, police said.
