INDIANAPOLIS — The Columbus Christian volleyball team opened its season Thursday with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-15 loss at Horizon Christian.

Jane Phillips pounded two kills for the Crusaders. Madison Henderson had three assists, and Savannah Spurgeon served six aces.

“They were definitely deer-in-the-headlights tonight for the first game,” Columbus Christian coach Bruce Giggy said. “But when we got into some serious rallies, our girls won the rally all four times. We were playing against mostly juniors and seniors, so I thought they did pretty well for what we were up against.”
