Seven local professionals will put on their dancing shoes this January when Children Inc. and Family School Partners present the fifth annual Dancing with the Stars ... Columbus Style fundraiser.

Based on the hit television show, each contestant, randomly selected from names offered by the event’s organizers and board of directors, is paired with a dance instructor who choreographs and teaches them a routine. The duos have been rehearsing in secret since August.

Just like on the hit television show, Columbus’ Dancing with the Stars will rely on audience votes to determine the winner, based on their donations; $1 equals one vote. The event raises $50,000 to $55,000 annually for its host charities.

Charlie Farber

Age: 63

Occupation: Market president for MainSource Bank

Farber said that, despite his lack of dancing skills, his wife, Jayne, encouraged him to participate in the fundraiser from the beginning. But performing with past winner Ronda Byers has put the pressure on. The accomplished mountain climber, who’s scaled Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Rainier, admits the event places him out of his comfort zone. “Climbing a mountain, I’m not nervous,” Farber said. “But climbing on that stage, I am.”
