Downtown merchants say $50 parking tickets are too high

Downtown business owners and operators aren't happy with a proposal to increase parking ticket fines to $50 a ticket.

The parking ticket increase is among recommendations from a city parking committee, which recommended the fine as a way of improving parking enforcement downtown.

Tuesday, members of the Downtown Merchants Association and other business owners told Columbus city councilmen that they think the $50 penalty is too high and that they would prefer to see some system of paid parking instead.
