When the weather outside is frightful, a warm cup of hot chocolate clutched between fuzzy mittens is downright delightful.
And despite an average temperature nearly 20 degrees above normal, about 80 spectators at last week’s Festival of Lights Parade visited Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum to sample comfort in a cup, topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
If that doesn’t seem like a lot, Zaharakos assistant manager Melissa VanDePutte said the seasonal treat usually isn’t among the historic ice cream parlor’s best sellers.
“We might sell one or two during the day,” VanDePutte said. “In the winter months, we might sell 10 a day.”
