A Columbus woman escaped injury Sunday night after accidentally driving her car into a pillar in front of a business in the Columbus Center shopping area.
Benkata R. Tatchigolla, 24, of 312 Stonegate Drive, Columbus, was attempting to pull into a parking space shortly before 7:30 p.m. in front of Great Clips Hair Salon, 3054 Columbus Center.
Officer Wesley Dodge said in his report that after Tatchigolla pushed the accelerator when she meant to hit the brake, she panicked and again hit the wrong pedal.
The mistake caused her 2011 Mazda to speed forward and smash into the brick pillar, the report said. The impact caused several bricks to crash down, with one brick sent flying through the shop’s front window.
The crash caused up to $10,000 in damage to the car and the front of the hair salon, police said.
