COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man was arrested on multiple drug charges following an investigation that culminated with the local SWAT team executing a search warrant Wednesday.
A neighborhood watch program tipped police to possible illegal drug activity at 1219 Franklin St. because many vehicles and people would come and go from the house, Columbus Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Myers said. An investigation was conducted by Columbus Police Department and Indiana State Police narcotics detectives, he said.
The SWAT team executed the search warrant at 5:48 p.m. and used distraction devices in the process, Myers said. Officers located drug paraphernalia and marijuana in plain view, and a search also uncovered psychedelic mushrooms, LSD and cash. At least 10 pounds of marijuana was discovered, along with substantial amounts of the mushrooms and LSD, Myers said.
Johnny J. Sharpe Jr., 33, 1219 Franklin St., was arrested and jailed on charges of two counts of dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance, dealing in marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
