Most area volleyball teams landed in seemingly-favorable positions at the Indiana High School Athletic Association seeded 402 teams Monday for its sectional volleyball playoffs.
Sectional play begins Oct. 16 and continues on Oct. 18 and Oct. 20 at 64 sites in four classifications.
Columbus East, the Hoosier Hills Conference champion, opens sectional play against Bloomington North, which it beat 3-0 early in the season. Columbus East is 26-2 while Bloomington North is 13-6. The games will be played at Bloomington South High School.
The Olympians come into the match on a 10-match win streak. Bloomington North finished the season well, though, with three consecutive victories and wins in seven of its last nine matches.
Columbus North, 9-22, faces East Central (24-7) in the first round. Two of East Central’s losses were to Columbus East and Jennings County. The game will be played at Bloomington South High School.
Jennings County (8-9) will face Bedford North Lawrence (14-15) at Seymour High School in the opening round. Jennings County dropped a 3-0 decision to BNL earlier this season.
Brown County (19-5) would appear to have drawn a cupcake in South Vermillion (1-17) in a match at Owen Valley High School while Hauser (18-7) will host Jac-Cen-Del, a team it defeated twice this season in straight sets. Trinity Lutheran gets a rematch against Crothersville (15-7), which it beat 3-1 during regular season play. The match will be played at Orleans High School.
Edinburgh (24-7) will face a Waldron team (15-9) that it beat 3-2 in the regular season. The match will be played at Indianapolis Lutheran High School.
Seymour (10-3) will get a shot to host New Albany (18-10) in the first round while South Decatur (13-14) will face Shawe Memorial in a match at Hauser. Shawe Memorial only has two wins this season and one was over South Decatur.
