COLUMBUS, Ind. — Three people were airlifted to a hospital following a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 in northern Jackson County, according to an Indiana State Police media release.
At approximately 5:25 p.m. Thursday, a 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by Eric W. Peery, 38, of Elizabethtown, was northbound on U.S. 31 near Jackson County Road 975N. A 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Michael L. Grissom, 56, of Westport, also was northbound and preparing to turn left into a private drive. Peery struck the rear of Grissom's car, causing it to spin into the southbound lane of U.S. 31. A 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup driven Eric D. Waggoner, 49, of Elizabethtown struck the Cavalier.
Peery suffered minor burns and abrasions from airbag deployment and refused medical treatment. Grissom, Waggoner, and a passenger in the Dakota pickup, Ronald Estes, age unknown, of North Vernon, were airlifted for treatment of serious injuries.
