Faith-centered hunting, fishing expo today

The Rev. Mike Bartlett sees a direct connection between the creator and the great outdoors.

“After all, God gave it to us to enjoy,” said Bartlett, pastor of Westport Christian Church.

That’s part of his reasoning behind the church’s free Second Annual Fishing and Hunting Expo unfolding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the church, Mulberry and Range streets in Westport, 20 miles east of Columbus.

Bartlett mentioned that this year’s event is particularly important because “after a long cold winter and a touch of cabin fever, it’s good to talk to others who are just as excited to get out of the house and talk about fishing and hunting as you are.”

This year’s event will feature two guest speakers:

Chris Myers speaks at 11 a.m. on “Fishing Focus.” In 1989, Myers qualified to fish the Bassmaster Classic, the Super Bowl of the fishing world. He has earned $250,000 in tournament winnings.

Kenny Bortlein speaks at 1 p.m. on Hoosier fishing. Bortlein is a five-time Indiana Bass Federation Angler of the year, and four-time Indiana State Team Member.

Various product demonstrations will be presented from vendors throughout the day. Door prizes will be given away.
