Follow The Republic:

Columbus Fire Department Station 6 will have a “Community Day” open house from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Station 6 is located at 1900 W. County Road 450S and was designed by William Rawn Associates. The station was completed in 1998.

Sponsored by the Cummins Engine Foundation Architecture Program, Fire Station No. 6 has become a civic landmark and a symbol of the southern expansion of the city. Station 6 protects the industrial parks and neighborhoods in the southwest portion of Columbus.

Station 6 houses a 75-foot Quint ladder truck that can provide an elevated water stream as well as providing firefighters with means to access rooftops. Station 6 has received two awards for its design.

Firefighters will have prevention and educational information available for all ages at the open house. Light refreshments will be available. For more information contact the Columbus Fire Department at 812-376-2679.
