Maj. Todd Noblitt, chief deputy of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, said it is illegal for motorists to drive on roads that are marked closed because of high water. He also noted that only 6 inches of water is needed to sweep a car off a roadway, a concern when temperatures are colder and prolonged submersion in water could result in hypothermia.
