Fourteen people escaped injury in an early morning house fire today at a duplex at 522 Eighth St., according to the Columbus Fire Department.
The home was a three story duplex. Battalion Chief Tim Hughes stated that when firefighters arrived at 6:57 a.m., they found fire and thick black smoke coming from the second and third story of the residence and that flames were coming through the roof. Chief Hughes said the occupants of the home were evacuating from the front and rear doors upon his arrival to the scene.
The eight residents of the duplex, and six guests, evacuated the home and there were some minor injuries, but those occupants declined medical treatment.
