FRENCH LICK — Trinity Lutheran defeated host Springs Valley 55-53 on Tuesday to advance to Round 2 of the Class A girls basketball sectional.

Trinity Lutheran’s Kyla Klosterman drove to the basket and hit the winning layup for the Cougars with five seconds remaining in the contest. Klosterman finished with nine points.

Haley Couch led Trinity Lutheran with 12 points, followed by Mariah Nolan with 10.

Tough night for Crusaders

WHITESTOWN — The Traders Point Christian squad dealt visiting Columbus Christian an 87-50 defeat Tuesday.

The Crusaders picked up 12 points from Josh Miracle.

“Rebounding-wise, it was one of our best efforts,” said Columbus Christian coach Kevin Roth. “We only got out-rebounded 38-24. We also fouled out Leo Kostic, their 6-foot-7 player who has about eight Division I offers.”
