A defendant charged last summer in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 19-month-old son has pleaded guilty to child neglect and attempted drug dealing.
Thomas W. Gorski faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison after entering the plea at a hastily called court hearing Thursday.
The surprise change of events came less than three weeks before Gorski was scheduled to go on trial Feb. 18 in Bartholomew County Circuit Court in connection with the death of toddler Evan Jack McCue on Nov. 25, 2012.
The little boy was found with head injuries and not breathing in the rear of a mobile home that Gorski shared with the boy's mother, 22-year-old Rachel McCue, in Candlelight Village trailer park.
