With the season of giving in full swing, Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County continues to offer an alternative to holiday shopping with its Grant A Wish program.
Through the program, now in its third year, Bartholomew County residents can donate money — either in their own name or on behalf of a friend, family member or co-worker — to fulfill a specific need for a local nonprofit.
The first $25,000 in donations received prior to Dec. 15 will be matched with funding from Elwood Staffing, MainSource Bank, and Marguerite Rust.
Since kicking off this year’s drive Nov. 15, the Heritage Fund has matched about $5,000 in donations.
“We’re feeling good about it, and are confident that people will keep giving,” said Lyn Morgan, foundation program officer who purchased wishes for five friends this week.
Morgan said this week’s numbers haven’t been tallied, but as of Nov. 30, 21 wishes had been granted for 16 organizations. The program booklet outlines a total of 68 wishes representing nearly 40 local organizations.
Wishes are divided into categories such as animals, children and arts, and include $100 to send a child to camp through Foundation for Youth, or $30 to provide an Exit Basket full of household necessities for clients of Horizon House.
