Hope fire death ruled self-inflicted

HOPE — The death of a 76-year-old man from a fire at his home on County Road 800N near Hope has been ruled as self-inflicted.

Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher said Friday that the man used a flammable liquid to set himself on fire and then suffered a massive heart attack from what has been determined to be severe coronary artery disease.

Fisher said there is no indication that the incident was anything other than self-inflicted. Fisher pronounced the victim dead at the scene Tuesday afternoon.
