Construction activities along Interstate 65 at the State Road 256 underpass caused problems for vehicles merging southbound onto I-65 from westbound State Road 256’s on-ramp Tuesday night. Those difficulties caused Indiana Department of Transportation officials to close the ramp to traffic. This closure could extend through the end of the work week at 1 p.m. Friday. The eastbound S.R. 256 ramp onto southbound I-65 remains open.
Motorists traveling westbound S.R. 256 are advised to use U.S. 31 as an alternate route.
Crews for the John Jurgensen Company, the state’s contractor, are saw-cutting sections of pavement and pouring concrete patches in the right lane of southbound I-65 at the State Road 256 interchange. Haul trucks and construction equipment at the work site are obstructing visibility for vehicles attempting to merge onto the north-south interstate from the State Road 256 ramp.
