The Indiana Department of Transportation will begin Monday on the $3 million State Road 3 pavement project at North Vernon.
Paving crews from Dave O’Mara, the state’s contractor, will begin placing asphalt for a temporary lane on the east side of State Road 3/State Street. Later, two-way traffic will be shifted to allow reconstruction along the west side of the route.
Flaggers will be on site to direct motorists around work sites as needed. Drivers should anticipate minor delays throughout the week. Also, 10-foot-wide load limits are being enforced, the release said.
The State Road 3/State Street auxiliary lane project extends 0.95 mile from Smith Street to U.S. 50. It includes widening and reconstructing the north-south highway, installing sanitary and storm sewer lines and building sidewalks with ADA-complaint curb ramps, the release said.
The average daily traffic count on this section of north-south highway exceeds 26,000.
