IU organ students set for Sunday concert

Three Indiana University organ students will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St. in Columbus.

Each student will play a 20-minute program on the church’s 47-rank Casavant pipe organ.

Priscilla Weaver is completing her second year of doctoral studies in organ performance. She currently serves as organist and choir director at First Lutheran Church in Columbus. She also serves as an associate instructor at IU’s Jacobs School of Music, teaching secondary piano.

John Stender is a second-year graduate student at the school of music pursuing a master’s of music in organ and sacred music. He has offered recitals in Georgia, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, Washington and Wisconsin and has traveled to study music in France, Namibia and South Africa. He currently serves as minister of music at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Indianapolis.

Ryan Brunkhurst is music director at St. John United Church of Christ, Indianapolis. Prior to St. John, Brunkhurst was interim assistant organist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis in 2013.
