VERNON, Ind. — A Jennings County man sustained serious injuries after three people broke into his home, tied him up and beat him, police said.

The man told police he was awakened between 1 and 2 a.m. Thursday by the three people inside his home in the 6000 block of Commiskey Pike west of Commiskey in southern Jennings County.

The intruders "severely beat" the man after tying him and took his phone and car keys as they left the house, authorities said.

The man freed himself and went to a neighbor's residence to call for assistance. He was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of head injuries.

Jennings County Sheriff's investigators believe the attack was not random and that the man might have known the intruders.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been on Commiskey Pike during those hours and may have seen any vehicles or people to contact the Jennings County Sheriff's Department at 812-346-5111.
