Jennings Sunday: Applications accepted for Hayden scholarships

HAYDEN — Applications are being accepted for six scholarships available to current high school seniors who attended Hayden Elementary School in western Jennings County.

Most of the scholarships are for those who plan to attend either a traditional college or a vocational trade school, according to a news release from the Hayden Historical Museum.

The scholarships are:

  • Edward and Marjorie Kehrt Memorial Scholarship — $1,475. Established with the Jennings County Community Foundation by the Kehrt estate.
  • John and Alice Wohrer Memorial Scholarship — $1,200. Applicants must be admitted to a college or junior college with the intention of gaining a degree in the field of education.
    • This award will be given to a senior who had attended four or more years at Hayden Elementary school.
  • Martha M. Vogel Memorial Scholarship — $500 (two recipients). Established through the Jennings County Community Foundation for those who attended four or more years at Hayden Elementary School.
  • Michael Euler Memorial Scholarship — $600. Established by the Hayden High School Alumni Association for students who attended four or more years at Hayden Elementary School.
  • Pat Sullivan/Rodger Ruddick Honorary Scholarship — $500. Established by Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Bessenger for students who attended four years or more at the Hayden Elementary School.
  • Apphia Wohrer Gerth Memorial Scholarship — $250. Made possible through the Jennings County Community Foundation and the Glen and Ruth Morrison Endowment Fund. This award will be given to a senior who had been a member of the Hayden Little Hoosier Historians while attending Hayden Elementary School.

Scholarship applications can be picked up in the guidance office at Jennings County High School, 800 W. Walnut St., North Vernon.
