NORTH VERNON — Five bands will perform at the 10th annual Granville Johnson Bluegrass Festival on Saturday at North Vernon’s Park Theatre Civic Centre.
Groups currently slated to perform are: Blue Moon, The Hoosier Street Unit, James White and Deer Creek, Groove Lounge and New Balance.
“We sell out every year for this, and already the tickets are over half gone,” said Bill Reichenbach at the Park Theatre ticket office. “It’s a great show with some really great bluegrass. You just don’t hear good bluegrass everywhere.”
The annual show is held in honor of Granville Johnson, a bluegrass musician who helped and supported the restoration of the Park Theatre.
“He died before the park was completed, so we held a concert in his honor soon after we opened. It was so popular, we have done it every year since,” Reichenbach said.
Profits from the concert will go to the Granville Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships to selected local high school senior musicians.
The music will begin at 7:30 p.m., and all ages are welcome to attend.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the Park Theatre Civic Centre ticket office.
