Jennings wrestlers shut out Eagles

NASHVILLE — Jennings County made it a clean sweep Tuesday night, winning all 14 matches in a 71-0 victory at Brown County.

“The score is not a good indicator because there were several matches that could have gone their way,” Jennings coach Howard Jones said. “They’re a good strong, young team. Of course, we’re pretty young, also.”

One of the closest matches came in the opener at 145 pounds, where Conner Montgomery edged Dylan Quackenbush 2-0. Colton Pifer (152) then won by pin, Gabe Wilson (160) won by forfeit and Jacob Cheesebrew (170) won a major decision.

After Dakota Bott (182) won by pin, Chance Ahlbrand (195) won by decision. Colton Castetter (220), Jace Baldwin (285), Kyle Lewis (106) and Jake Hammond (113) followed with consecutive pins.

Gary Engelking (120) won a major decision, Marshall Holwager (126) won by pin and Anthony Engelking (132) pulled out an 11-10 decision over Cody Leeper. Ethan Herrin (138) closed the match with a pin.

Owls rout Southwestern

HANOVER — Four forfeits and four pins gave Seymour’s wrestling team a 48-18 victory at Southwestern (Hanover).

Winning by pin were Levi Hill (126), Richard Rohde (182), Tyler Bicknell (220) and Adam Wolka (285). Josh Rohde (113), Zefe Trejo (138), Keenan Bohall (152) and Marcus Baurle (160) all received forfeits.


Red Devils sweep Owls

SEYMOUR — Seymour opened its season with a pair of losses. Jeffersonville won the boys meet 125-60 and the girls meet 94-91.

Sidney Stout won the 50-yard freestyle, and Darren Cain took the 100 backstroke to lead the girls. The Owls also won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

For the boys, Ethan Blacklidge won the 100 butterfly, Sam Montgomery took the 100 backstroke, Noah Bullard captured the 100 breaststroke and Chris Robinson led a 1-2-3 finish in diving.
