Bartholomew County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.2 percent in July, which was tied for the second lowest in the state, according to Indiana Workforce Development.
The number represents a decrease from the 4.6 percent rate reported in June and is more than 2 percent lower than the 6.4 percent rate reported in July 2013.
Jackson County was the lowest of the neighboring counties for the July reporting period at 4.6 percent, followed by Johnson County (4.7 percent) and Brown County (4.9 percent).
Dubois County had the lowest unemployment rate in Indiana for July at 3.9 percent and Sullivan County (7.9 percent) had the highest rate.
The statewide unemployment rate for July was 5.9 percent, 26th among the states and slightly below the national average of 6.2 percent.
The nationwide unemployment rate ticked up in July from the June rate of 6.1 percent.
