An open letter to Lowe’s concerning the decision to pull their advertisements from TLC network’s “All-American Muslim”:
I am extremely disappointed by Lowe’s decision to pull its advertising from “All-American Muslim.”
The show was an attempt to educate the public concerning the lives of the vast, vast majority of Americans who practice a faith that overall, promotes peace. It just so happens a few radicals have poisoned the understanding of the people.
America was formed by people looking for religious autonomy and to escape oppression. Regardless of what right-wing radical groups, such as the Florida Family Association, believe, this is not an exclusively Christian nation. We were formed and established in a way as to allow freedom to practice our beliefs regardless of whether those be Christian, Buddhist, Hindu or yes, even Islamic.
United we stand, divided we fall. Sound familiar?
Should the world view Americans as Christian radicals because of Timothy McVeigh who acted in the name of Christianity? He was tried and convicted as a criminal, as he should have been. Those who commit violent acts in the name of Islam should also be treated as criminals and tried and convicted in the same fashion. 9/11, as heinous and tragic as it was, was not an act of war but the action of a group of criminals. To convict an entire religion because of the actions of a few is bigoted and xenophobic.
Please stand up to those who would foment hatred and violence and continue to support this valiant effort to educate the American people.
